I have been through a lot in my life, love, pain, anger, sadness; there are tons of emotions I’ve felt. Sometimes when I’m sad, exhausted or angry I just don’t feel like doing anything, no video games, no tv, no sports, only one hobby always helps me through pain and sadness. This hobby music; I am always listening to music; right at this moment I would be listening to music if I could. I use different bands for different emotions I am feeling; when I’m in love I listen to Green Day and Dirty Heads, when I feel defeated I listen to Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance, when I am angry I listen to Rage Against The Machine, and Linkin Park, when I am heartbroken I listen to My Chemical Romance, Blink 182, Linkin Park and Green Day. I have a playlist for every emotion; music is a huge part of my life.
I have been called the songbird of my generation. Hahaha…… nope that isn’t me; I like to write songs, but when I sing…..let’s just say it isn’t that good. Music is great, because you can write anything you want; it is really creative. Songs inspire me to be a better person, to fight for what is right, to be who I want to be, and teach me lessons I never thought I would learn, such as,”The hardest part of ending is starting again,” or,”So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why it’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time.”
Music makes me fit in, and I feel like I can express myself through it; through the pain, anger, hard times, challenges, and everything. Green Day, and The Dirty Heads do a good job of expressing a lot of different feelings, that is one of the reasons why Green Day and The Dirty Heads are my two favorite bands. For sadness I have,”I Got No Time”, “Chelsea”,”Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”, and so much more. When I need to have some hope, I listen to,”Easy”,”Believe”,”Waiting”, and “Jesus Of Suburbia.” My point is I might not have done some of the things I have done in my life; if I didn’t have music.
Then, there is songs like,”Take it Or Leave It” by Sublime With Rome, and “Best Of You,” by Foo Fighters, they are really catchy songs, and also have great meanings. I could seriously name quotes all day like,”Cause’ I try to love you, I try to hold onto the feeling that makes me fall, take it or leave it, now.” I can pretty much say, most of my songs have an interesting story behind them. Such as,”Chelsea” by Dirty Heads, at first it appeared to be an upbeat song with little meaning behind it, but it is actually a beautiful, but also sad song. The song is about a guy who lost his girlfriend from an accident, and about the sadness he feels.”This time I feel like dying. Feels like I’m dead within, sometimes I wish I was, girl, so I could hold you, again. Build your castle in the sky, now no one can tell you lies. Heaven’s not so far if I can see you in my dreams.” Then, here is one of my favorite songs called,”Waiting for the End,” is a harder one to read in a way; the song deals with some type of relationship ending, and how it is hard to continue on.”Waiting for the end to come, wishing I had strength to stand, this is not what I had planned, it’s out of my control. Flying at the speed of light, thoughts were spinning in my head, so many things were left unsaid, it’s hard to let you, I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie. All I want to do is trade this life for something new, holding on to what I haven’t got.”
Music is a very powerful thing altogether, it can change someone’s view of the world altogether, the way someone feels, or even create a new person in a way. Music is a very important skill I would like to have. I could name so many songs that inspire me,”Dark Days”,”Sound Of Change”,”Day by Day”,”Coming Clean”, “Waiting”,”In the End”,”Good Riddance(Time of your life)”,”Stray Heart”,”Fake Your Death”,”Numb”,”Faint”,”Feeling This”,”Not Now”, and the list goes on and on.
Now we’ve gotten to Green Day, if you hate them I honestly don’t care, because they are amazing(same with the Sublime With Rome)! What I love is that they’re always changing, for people who say they always sound the same…….try comparing the albums,”Dookie” and “American Idiot”, yeah good luck with that! One of my friends once asked me to recommend a few songs……. and I ended up sending pretty much half of their songs. If you like more punk, I would recommend Dookie and Insomniac(my favorites). If you are looking for a sadder and more political side, American Idiot. For Pop and punk, I would recommend 21st Century Breakdown. They are all great, but I have to crown Dookie the king, they are all short, but they are all gold, except for maybe,”Pulling Teeth.” Dookie also has most of my favorite songs like,”Coming Clean”,”In the End”,”Chump”, and “Emenius Sleepus,” they are all amazing songs, and have great lyrics in my opinion. Like this from,”Chump”,”I don’t know you, but I think I hate you. You’re the reason for all my misery, strange how you’ve become my biggest enemy, and I’ve never seen your face,” or this from,”In The End”,”I figured out what your all about, and I don’t think I like what I see SOOOO….. I hope I won’t be there in the end if you come around.” Green Day just has a great variety of everything in my opinion.
Now here, I will talk about my favorite type of music……...don’t judge…...love songs, they have always been my favorite type of music. There are so many types of them from hello’s to farewell’s to I love you’s, there is so many great love songs I could name, like “Stray Heart”,”Santeria”,”Chelsea”,”Your Love”,”Take it or Leave it”,”Lay Me Down”,”Last Night On Earth”,”Everything I’m Looking For”, and “Love Letters”; I wish I could name them all, but I can’t. Love is a mysterious thing, and I love the fact that people would do so much for each other, that they can have another who will fight together with them through life, and understands them. I guess you could say I want that one day, but whatever. Now to end it off with one of my favorite love quotes,”Look at the stars, look how they shine for you, and everything you do.”
Overall, music is a big part of my life, and I couldn’t be complete without it, but,”We got time for mistakes, and we got time to retry.” I would like to go some more concerts, but Green Day doesn’t seem to tour anymore:/. I could recommend a lot of bands, but my favorites are Green Day, Linkin Park, Rage Against The Machine, Blink 182, Sublime With Rome, and My Chemical Romance. They are all great in their own ways, and I like them for that, but that’s just me I don’t know about guys. All these bands don’t try to perfect, and we shouldn’t have try and be perfect either.Although, we all go through pain, it is simply a test in my opinion, are we strong enough to handle this test? Yes, but we must not give up, and always have hope, because there always is hope. I would like to leave the class with my favorite song, it always helps when nothing else does, it gives me strength, this song is, “Good Riddance(Time Of Your Life)” by Green Day. This song holds one of the deepest meanings in a song, my favorite quote is,” Time grabs you by the wrist, and directs you where to go, so make the best of this test, and don’t ask why, it’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time. It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right.”
